Hey Juicettes,

‘Winterizing’ that cute lace tank I found on the sale rack at H&M for $5.00…remember? When the weather takes a turn for the worst, layering is the key to making your summer wardrobe ‘werk’ for you.  My two ‘go to’ pieces for layering a look are: A basic black turtleneck and some sort of vest. When styling up a light summer piece, think about adding a layer underneath and a layer on top to start and see where that takes you. Doing this adds texture and dimension to the look.

Hey Juicettes,

Feeling that French Fashion Editor vibe today in my dress…sans cigarette. Mixing up textures: Chambray, Velvet, and Gabardine to name a few! And what the what…black and navy?? Zut Alors! The French make it look so easy!

F6

F3I thrifted this navy velvet blazer at the Goodwill a few weeks ago and am very happy with it! It could do with a bit of tailoring but i’ll live with it for now. I am hopefully going to take an alterations course next month which I am very excited about! I have always wanted to be able to tailor my own clothes, especially some of the ones I have thrifted.

F4

F2Really loving block heel boots for the Fall. Splurged on these ones a few months ago. They are from Zara…..I have to say, Zara footwear is killing it this season!

Houndstooth Tap Short – 3 Ways {Casual}

Happy Friday Friends!

As we head into the long week-end I am feeling footloose and fancy free! The reason for this is…..well….eh…..many fold(s). Firstly, I have the sweetest, most adorable baby who was, as THYMWYA would say, “created from a cloud of glitter”. Secondly, it’s my birthday week-end and this Mama is gonna shake her money maker with a few of her best ‘g-frens‘ on Toronto Island. Thirdly, my ‘mans‘ and I are going on a romantic dinner date Sunday night sans bebe, it will be a dressy affair and a night to remember ….watch out!! Forthly, {see I told you there were many fold(s)} I am rounding out my One Short, Three Ways series today with a fun and casual look that is perfect for frolicking ‘aboot’ the city or in your backyard. Fifthly…just kidding…..I’ll stop there. It’s getting a little ridiculous now….you get the jist…life is pretty f**kin’ good!! I would love to know what’s making you feel like kickin’ off yer Sunday shoes this week-end….drop me a line!

The Thrifted Short Project: One Bermuda….Five Ways

Look: 3

Hello Juicettes! So how are you enjoying the TSP so far? I am having a blast! Who knew I could get such milage out of a $1.50 (yes friends, these shorts were $1.50!) Today’s look is all about date night. I wanted to show you how to dress up a relaxed Bermuda short for an evening out with your ‘signif-other’. I love the look of a high waisted bottom paired with a tasteful (the operative word here) cropped top. However, this trend can quickly go very, very wrong, so tread delicately dear Juicettes. I have laid out a few ground rules (for myself) when attempting this look:

  1. Only 1-2 inches of belly flesh must show.
  2. Refrain from exposing your belly button (you are not Sporty Spice)
  3. Do not take off that blazer
  4. Walk tall or not at all

Dare I ask how I did? What are your thoughts on the ‘exposed midriff’ trend?

Good Morning! Welcome to the first installment of the Thrifted Short Project: One Bermuda….Five Ways. For today’s look I decided to go relaxed and casual. This look is perfect for a day of shopping downtown, a playdate in the park or a casual lunch with friends.

Hello Audrey…are you there?

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Believe it or not I found this dress while thrifting when I was two months pregnant. It was one of those gems that I just couldn’t pass up. I took it on good faith that I would fit into it….eventually….I mean come on, how gorgeous is this Hepburn inspired masterpiece? There is something to be said about the feeling you get when you find that diamond in the rough. I get butterflies in my tummy and I instantly start dreaming about how I will accessorize it and where it will make it’s debut. Ten months later….here we are!

Blushing Menswear

Hey Juicettes!

It’s been a while! Turns out this whole ‘being a Mom thing’ has turned my life upside-down…..in a good way of course! I am gradually trying to weave some ‘me time’ back into the mix. A workout here and there….maybe some Yoga, and maybe, just maybe some time with Mr. Ed (haha!) Needless to say, planning time for blogposts and photo shoots has been a challenge. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel….Miss Rooney Mae has dropped a night feed which allows me a good 6 hours sleep! Trust me, when you’ve been living off of 2-3 hours here and there…six hours is EPIC! Hence the smile on my face below.

So let’s talk fashion! I have always been a fan of menswear. I think every woman needs a beautifully tailored ‘power suit’ in her wardrobe. If the finances allow it, then splurge! Nothing says, ‘look out the boss lady is coming’ more than the sound of heels marching down the hallway, a slicked back pony, and a suit that is tailored to perfection! Am I right? If you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a designer suit, not to worry! You can piece one together by carefully coordinating separates from your wardrobe….or from thrift!

SummerSuit1Of course that would mean breaking all “the rules”. But in my book rules were made to be broken! It all started with pink and brown…two colour combinations I feel don’t get enough cred! Then came the pattern mixing, a tiny houndstooth pattern paired beautifully with the cherise vertically striped pant. The blush coloured blazer completes the look and the pearl and gold accessories channel a modern Gadsby vibe.

SummerSuit4So how about this vest?
One of my most coveted thrift scores…it is Ralph Lauren Collection and it was eight bucks!

InstaBump

Hey Juicettes!

The bump is progressing nicely. To be honest,  I am having a lot of fun dressing my slowly evolving curves. Since the selection of stylish maternity clothes on the market leaves something to be desired, I am trying to get away with not buying any of it! Now I know all you Moms and preggers ladies out there are probably scoffing at me, hahahah….believe me I know I am a little cray-zay! At 28 weeks, I feel I am doing quite well! What do you think?

From Left to Right….

Black! Thick black riding leggings and a long turtleneck c/o Zara.
Blue Bayou – Spandex tube skirt, denim shirt, and double-breasted cardigan – all items I had in my closet
Red and Black Graphic Sweater – Thrift!
Nygard Granny flats – Thrift!
My Boyfriends T-shirt and ‘boyfriend’ jeans – Something borrowed.
Lycra High/Low Dress – A Forever 21 favourite!
Thrifted Top and Skirt – I have no words!
Pattern Clash – I gotta be me!
Houndstooth skirt – Thrifted and styled over the bump! It was $7.00′ and a size 12.  I will have it tailored once baby is born….because I love it that much!
Nautical Stripes! Accentuates all the right places!

Cheers!

Vic

Red Head

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Psyche! Bet you thought I made a bold move and dyed my hair red!!  Nope, I wish I was that glamourous. Since the jury is pretty much hung on whether or not pregnant lasses should dye their hair, I have decided to go ‘aux natural’. The idea of toxic ‘chems’ seeping through my cerebellum and into my ‘nubbin’s blood stream is one I could do without. So with that said, I am embracing my mousy brown ( & grey) tresses….along with many of the other freaky symptoms of pregnancy. Whenever I feel ‘cray‘ I just remind myself that I am making brains. BRAINS for God’s sake!!!! Alright, enough of that. Let’s talk fashion!

I have a penchant for tweed….yup it’s true!  Tweed has been a consistent element in my closet for a long as I can remember. Perhaps my love of tweed originated  from my British roots. I remember my Mother and Grand-Mother swooning over the construction of a garment, admiring every detail, from the lining, to the texture, to the buttons! This taught me to appreciate fashion as an art form. So when I spotted this stunning textured tweed tee at Joe Fresh you can imagine my excitement…..did I mention that there are pants to match? Eeeeeekkkkkk!

I paired the tweed tee with my hyped up houndstooth crop pants…..I am days from being too big to wear these!
(might as well go out with a bang!)

Black and gold accents complete the look.
…..on the way out the door I grabbed my wooly toque, sometimes the things we throw on without thinking end up adding the most interest.

(Tweed Tee – Joe Fresh; Turtleneck – Zara; Necklace, Pants – H&M; Toque, Purse – Value Village; Capri Cuff – Lauren Elan)

Have a great day!
