A Face Lift

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Surprise! Don’t panic, you’re in the right place! We just went under the knife! With Spring on it’s merry way, we felt it was time to trim down the fat, (not the phat) and streamline the blog just a tad. You like?

It’s no secret that black and white is a huge trend for the Spring! Living in Canada, we are all unfortunately aboard the slow train to hot, sunny days…..yes Juicettes, our dear Mother Nature is a little bit stunned when it comes to switching seasonal gears. So with that said, I thought I would get a jump on the black and white trend by layering up a sleeveless sweater dress over my classic cropped skinny jeans. I have to say, I am obsessed with black and white in fashion as well as interior design…..

With the new blog re-design I am going to be focusing a little more on interior design as this is a passion of mine as well. Since Ed and I moved into our new home 6 months ago we have been throwing ourselves into designing the space; we love quirky, rustic, approachable design with a little bit of funk mixed in for good measure. I love the idea of re-appropriating found objects into something unexpected and fabulous! Enter the DIY pallet shelving you see below. I stumbled across this idea while ‘time sucking’ on Pinterest one day and instantly fell in love! Believe me, it was so unbelievably easy to do. I will post the DIY next week….stay tuned!

The simplicity of the pallet shelf is brought to life though the styling. As the artwork was my jumping off point, I was sure to pull in yellows, greens, and whites with the accessories.

Elastic Waist State of Mind

Hey all!

It’s getting to the point where most of the bottoms in my wardrobe simply do not fit! Thank goodness for elastic waist bands! Rocking these snake skin beauts with a long thrifted tunic and cosy sweater. At 34 weeks, I am all about comfort….with a punch of style!

(Pants, Sweater – Zara; Tunic, Purse – Value Village; Scarf – Joe Fresh; Toque – ‘the BF’s”; Boots – Old Aldo (i DIY’d them!)

Have a great day!

Wine Love

Happy Monday Juicettes!

Just a quick one today. Looking forward to Spring, but  as you can see by the white stuff on the ground, we are not quite there yet. No sense in forcing it –  why not embrace the Winter’s bone with a mix of thrifted separates styled with chic wine coloured accessories? Yes please!

Have a lovely day!

High, Medium, Thrift

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. The 90’s. Yup. They’re back! Each fashion season we see a resurgence of decades past – 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s….it was only a matter of time before the 90’s ‘crowd surfed‘ their way back into our wardrobe’s again. When I think back to my teenage years, I definitely went through a serious grunge period. Oh yeah, I did it all:  Doc Martins, concert tees, cut off Levis, plaid, bedhead…..poor posture….depression…..angst!!! Those were the days!  During that period of my life I really began to express myself through fashion – that is when my love of thrifting began.  I will always hold a place in my heart (and my wardrobe) for those days. That said, I am pretty pumped about this seasons 90’s revival! Enter the Baja poncho…..the latest thrifted addition to my fashion repertoire.

The total awesomosity of this Ponch is unparalleled, however something is missing….an elevation, an update…..something to bring it into the now. Styling the poncho with a mix of high, medium and thrifted pieces will transform this $5.00 thrift into the realm of chic!
Here’s how!

1.Baja Poncho – Thrift $5.00

2. Proenza Schouler Satchel – Net a Porter 1695

3. Tribal Necklaces – Zara $35.90

4. Red Hot Chili Peppers Tee – Thrift – $5.00

5. Wide Heel Sandal with Ankle strap – Zara $79.90

6. DIY Thrifted Levis – Any thrift shop

7. Tribal Print Skirt – H&M $19.90

8.Vamp Shoe with Ankle Strap – Zara – $49.90

May your week-end be full of slilettos and plaid!

Mama Cass

Hey Juicettes!

I’m back in full effect with some fresh finds from a few of my favourite thrift joints! Last week I took a jaunty stroll to Queen street: My mission  -” to come correct”. I was in dire need of a hair cut and a few more bump friendly pieces to add to my wardrobe. I popped into the carefully curated Common Sort, where I found this boho inspired floral dress…..perfection! I added a dash of glam by styling the dress with a tailored blazer, cropped fur vest and leather gloves.

A Fugly Find

Hey Juicettes!

I threw this look together on the week-end. Thank god for low rise boyfriend jeans – I was just able to do them up under my bump! 56 days until I pop this little nubbin’ out…… that’s right I’m going to……. “pop… this…. nubbin’ out!” **sang to the tune of turn this mutha out**! I digress. All in all pregnancy has been a wild ride, I really can’t complain. No morning sickness, average weight gain, limited cravings….believe me, I know I got off lucky! I have had a lot of fun dressing my new shape. So far I haven’t bought a lick of maternity wear, I have, however,  been really creative with my thrift purchases. Like this sweater for instance.  Fugly right? Just the right amount of fugs…..the colour is boss and it’s got a heck of a drop shoulder!

This is what I call the five dollah holla!
I loves me some thrift!

Make it Happen

Happy Friday Juicettes!

“Some wish it would happen, others make it happen”

A little dose of inspiration for the week-end! There is something to be said about grabbing life by the balls and just going for it! What are you ‘making happen’ in your life?

Thanks for reading!

Have a great week-end!

Gone Fishing

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Brrrrrrr it’s cold outside! Sometimes I just don’t want to bundle up in a down coat, toque and winter boots only to jump in the car and run a few errands. A vintage Fisherman’s sweater is the perfect solution: warm as heck, cozy, and of course….stylish! You can find these timeless knits at your local thrift store for next to nothing. For all you Torontonians, check out the Black Market on Queen Street, I think they have a $10 rack of them at the moment….what a steal!!

This is Canada my friends!

Styled up with a pair of camo ‘skinnies’, a men’s denim shirt and tall riding boots (my Christmas prezzy from Ed!)
The bump is definitely under wraps today but very warm none the less!

(Fisherman’s Sweater, Shades – The Black Market; Camo Skinnies – Urban Outfitters; Denim shirt – H&M Mens; Riding boots – Aldo; Leather Tote – Hand me down from my Auntie Jo)

Have a great week-end Juicettes!

Hey Juicettes!

The bump is progressing nicely. To be honest,  I am having a lot of fun dressing my slowly evolving curves. Since the selection of stylish maternity clothes on the market leaves something to be desired, I am trying to get away with not buying any of it! Now I know all you Moms and preggers ladies out there are probably scoffing at me, hahahah….believe me I know I am a little cray-zay! At 28 weeks, I feel I am doing quite well! What do you think?

From Left to Right….

Black! Thick black riding leggings and a long turtleneck c/o Zara.
Blue Bayou – Spandex tube skirt, denim shirt, and double-breasted cardigan – all items I had in my closet
Red and Black Graphic Sweater – Thrift!
Nygard Granny flats – Thrift!
My Boyfriends T-shirt and ‘boyfriend’ jeans – Something borrowed.
Lycra High/Low Dress – A Forever 21 favourite!
Thrifted Top and Skirt – I have no words!
Pattern Clash – I gotta be me!
Houndstooth skirt – Thrifted and styled over the bump! It was $7.00′ and a size 12.  I will have it tailored once baby is born….because I love it that much!
Nautical Stripes! Accentuates all the right places!

My Fair Isle

Hey Juicettes!

I have always loved Fair Isle sweaters, classic and modern in all the right ways! When I think back to my childhood, I recall my Nana knitting me all sorts of things: from dolls, to animals, to scarves,  to leg warmers, to sweaters…..you name it, she knit it…. and I loved it! What a lucky girl I was! Out of the plethora of fabulous things ‘me Nan‘ would knit for me, the Fair Isle sweater was by far my absolute fav! Named after a tiny island in the the north of Scotland, Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours on a garment. This past year we saw a huge resurgence of these ‘huggy’ jumpers, in fact, if you search the interwebs, they were on many a trend board. Fortunately everything old is new again, you can find the Fair Isle sweater in bunches at your local thrift store, and for a fraction of the price! I scored the one I am rocking in today’s post for a mere five dollars at a downtown thriftstore call The Black Market….remember this? I decided to add a posh spin on the styling by pairing a gold blouse and a menswear inspired pant with the vibrant sweater. You like?

The Fair Isle sweater from J crew is stunning but I believe it retailed for approximately $200.00. Just a tad over my budget!

A splash of Mac’s Morrange lipstick and a camel fur stole completes the look, which by the way, is 90% thrift!

(Fair Isle sweater, Shades – The Black Market; Gold blouse – Value Village; Pants, Fur Stole – Joe Fresh; Shoes – Plato’s Closet; Purse – Coach – House of Vintage)

Have a great day!
