A Thrifted Fav

Happy Monday Juicettes!

As I scarf down our leftover Halloween candy for my breakfast dessert…that’s a thing right?…wait, maybe it’s lunch dessert…I have been up since 4:00a.m with a sickly, teething baby; and it’s 9:00a.m. now, so lunch (dessert) feels about right. I digress. Where was I? Yes, I was about to cleverly link my gluttonous state of mind with the below Menswear inspired pantaloons…ha! Who am I kidding? One could barely toast a slice of bread with the amount of brainpower I have right now. I’ll just quit while I am somewhat ahead…and leave you with this…

I’m Feeling: Suspenders

Hey Juicettes!

Really feeling Menswear this Fall. Strangely enough I feel more feminine in boyish cuts and sharp tailoring than in a little black dress. Love that relaxed, confident stride that suddenly appears when I rock a pair of mens trousers and an oxford blouse. Throw on a pair of suspenders and watch out! Here are some inspiring ways to wear your braces!

Deals, Deals, Deals

Hey Ya’ll!

Guess what? H&M is having a *Mad Sale*…..Yes, yes! An additional 25% off all sale items!! What’s a girl to do? SHOP!!!!  You know how I loves me a good rummage! Since I am on a bit of a ‘budg’……translation: spending lockdown, I narrowed down my purchase to three must have items.

1) The rich red tapestry pant, reminiscent of this suit that pranced down the Fall RTW runway at Moschino. (Lurve!)
2) A dip dyed version of the shitty grey sweatshirt, which continues to be a huge trend for the season. I found this in the Men’s section for next to nothing….remember my tip! Always check out the Men’s Department!
3) A delicate boho lace tank which I feel I can winterize with some clever layering and accessories (stay tuned)

Would you believe I only paid $37 and change for these three items? …..And they don’t look overly ‘H&M-ey’….(yes, I made up an adjective) I digress.

Any readers from Toronto out there? Vic (that’s me) has a shopping tip for ya’ll! The H&M in Dufferin Mall is a great location to shop because it is tidy, well merchandised, there is an excellent children’s department and a super-sized fitting room for an obnoxious stroller….(if you happen to have one like me.) The fitting room staff are also friendly and accommodating which I find rare at an H&M.

Happy Shopping!

The Thrifted Short Project: One Bermuda…Five Ways

Hey Juicettes!

If you follow me on instagram then you may already know about The Thrifted Short Project. If you don’t follow me on IG then, click here, and get on that my friends! Awesome! Right…sorted. Still scratching your lid thinking, “Huh, what is she on about?” Allow me to explain. A few weeks ago Ed, Rooney and I took a jaunty stroll to my favourite thrift store, Value Village. We were on a mission to find a Gatsby inspired outfit for Ed as we had a Garden Party to attend. Now taking an 8 week old infant to a busy thrift store on a week-end is risky business, but our Rooney is a star and we knew she was up for the challenge. Needless to say, the excursion had to be all business! In and out! Ed was sceptical that I would be able to ‘stay the course‘ and not get distracted by the aisles upon aisles of delicious deals in the women’s department. For the most part, I did quite well…..however I couldn’t resist taking a quick stroll down the Women’s Short aisle and I am so glad I did because my thrifty radar locked it’s gaze on a hot pink, striped pair of bermuda shorts….Hello Vicar!!! I grabbed them immediately, threw them in my basket and marched over to the fitting room. Eureka….a perfect fit! $3.99…the perfect price! Oh, and 50% off…it doesn’t get much better then this!

A few days later my Mum was visiting and I showed her my latest thrift. “She stared at the shorts and said, hmmm I suppose those are in fashion now, but to me they look very dated. I would have walked right by them.” Boom Shlaka! Instant inspiration! “Mum“, I replied, “it’s all about spotting the potential! I am going to show you and my readers how to make a $3.99 thrift….werk!!!!” And so the Thrifted Short Project was born! Each day this week I will be styling up these kooky pink Bermudas, showcasing their versatility. That’s right friends, One Bermuda….Five Ways. You won’t want to miss this!

Happy Hump Day Juicettes!

Any of you have a pair of tired looking Cowboy boots hiding in the abyss of your closet? Yeah, I bet you do! Well stop what you are doing right now and dust off those dastardly dead beat boots cause I am about to show you a quick and easy way to transform those dated Yoakam classics. All you need is a pair of sharp scissors and a dream! He he he!

Step One: Try on your boots and mark off where you want to cut with some sewing chalk. Be sure to follow the line of the boot when cutting. The cut will be slightly angled, not perfectly straight.
Step Two: Use the excess leather as a stencil to mark off where you will cut on the second boot. Mark the line with sewing chalk and cut.
Step Three: Try the boots on again to ensure the cuts line up and that you have cut enough off. Remember, you can always trim more off once you have cut so don’t get too cray with those scissors!

Booties were a hot trend in footwear last season and are the perfect transitional piece! Throw ‘um on with a floral dress, a pair of jeans, a legging, and your out the door!

Have a great day!

High, Medium, Thrift

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. The 90’s. Yup. They’re back! Each fashion season we see a resurgence of decades past – 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s….it was only a matter of time before the 90’s ‘crowd surfed‘ their way back into our wardrobe’s again. When I think back to my teenage years, I definitely went through a serious grunge period. Oh yeah, I did it all:  Doc Martins, concert tees, cut off Levis, plaid, bedhead…..poor posture….depression…..angst!!! Those were the days!  During that period of my life I really began to express myself through fashion – that is when my love of thrifting began.  I will always hold a place in my heart (and my wardrobe) for those days. That said, I am pretty pumped about this seasons 90’s revival! Enter the Baja poncho…..the latest thrifted addition to my fashion repertoire.

The total awesomosity of this Ponch is unparalleled, however something is missing….an elevation, an update…..something to bring it into the now. Styling the poncho with a mix of high, medium and thrifted pieces will transform this $5.00 thrift into the realm of chic!
Here’s how!

1.Baja Poncho – Thrift $5.00

2. Proenza Schouler Satchel – Net a Porter 1695

3. Tribal Necklaces – Zara $35.90

Mama Cass

Hey Juicettes!

I’m back in full effect with some fresh finds from a few of my favourite thrift joints! Last week I took a jaunty stroll to Queen street: My mission  -” to come correct”. I was in dire need of a hair cut and a few more bump friendly pieces to add to my wardrobe. I popped into the carefully curated Common Sort, where I found this boho inspired floral dress…..perfection! I added a dash of glam by styling the dress with a tailored blazer, cropped fur vest and leather gloves.

Ta Ta!

Hey Juicettes!

The bump is progressing nicely. To be honest,  I am having a lot of fun dressing my slowly evolving curves. Since the selection of stylish maternity clothes on the market leaves something to be desired, I am trying to get away with not buying any of it! Now I know all you Moms and preggers ladies out there are probably scoffing at me, hahahah….believe me I know I am a little cray-zay! At 28 weeks, I feel I am doing quite well! What do you think?

From Left to Right….

Black! Thick black riding leggings and a long turtleneck c/o Zara.
Blue Bayou – Spandex tube skirt, denim shirt, and double-breasted cardigan – all items I had in my closet
Red and Black Graphic Sweater – Thrift!
Nygard Granny flats – Thrift!
My Boyfriends T-shirt and ‘boyfriend’ jeans – Something borrowed.
Lycra High/Low Dress – A Forever 21 favourite!
Thrifted Top and Skirt – I have no words!
Pattern Clash – I gotta be me!
Houndstooth skirt – Thrifted and styled over the bump! It was $7.00′ and a size 12.  I will have it tailored once baby is born….because I love it that much!
Nautical Stripes! Accentuates all the right places!

Even Heeled

Hey Friends!

Having a growing seed inside of you does something to your shoe mojo. My three and four inch heels are slowly taking the backseat for a more practical and ‘even heeled’ selection. Woah!!! Let’s not get carried away here! I haven’t hung up my stilts just yet! This gal is a fighter and the show must go on! However, I did feel the need to introduce some more practical options into my shoe repertoire. Enter black and white ‘wing tips’ c/o Urban Outfitters. Being the thrifty gal that I am, I spotted these dapper shoes on the clearance rack for 50% off of the red sticker price! (words I am always fond of reading) At 15 ‘dollhairs’ you really can’t go wrong! Now I know what you are thinking because I was thinking the same thing. What, if any, arch support does a fifteen dollar pair of shoes have to offer a preggers lady who is on her feet all day? Probably very little. With this in mind, I was sure to buy a half size up so I could insert one of those super dooper Dr Scolls back support insoles into said shoe. Pretty clever eh?

Shoe love!
