I’m Feeling: Suspenders

Hey Juicettes!

Really feeling Menswear this Fall. Strangely enough I feel more feminine in boyish cuts and sharp tailoring than in a little black dress. Love that relaxed, confident stride that suddenly appears when I rock a pair of mens trousers and an oxford blouse. Throw on a pair of suspenders and watch out! Here are some inspiring ways to wear your braces!

Netflix & 90’s Madge

Hey Juicettes!

Enjoying my last days of freedom ‘slothing‘ around the house in my jammies, catching up on my blog and all the ‘haps aboot the interwebs’……Yes friends, I am revelling in the art of time suckage. Speaking of which…. let’s chat about Netfix. About a year ago Ed and I decided to subscribe to Netfilx and made the unfortunate mistake of being really transparent when it came to our local…..allow me to extrapolate. You see, Canadians get the raw end of the stick when if comes to the ‘flix’ – believe me not all ‘flix’ are created equal. The difference between the programming on the American vs. Canadian Netfix is staggering….I am talking Degrassi the Next Gen, Veronica Marrs, Danger Bay and the Republic of Doyle v.s. Breaking Bad, Damages, and Walking Dead. I mean come on! Mind you, this was a year ago and I have heard that the Canadian Netflix has improved quite a bit. Nonetheless, Ed decided to take matters into his own hands and ‘bleep’ the system. He ‘acquired’ a program called Tunnel Bear that tricks Netflix into thinking we live in the U.S! Tunnel Bear triangulates a signal to outer space, reroutes it through an international server, then through a Russian firewall to an American IP address….and voila! Hahhahahah, I am totally ‘effing with you! Well the bit about Tunnel bear is true. I digress.

In practicing the art of time suckage I stumbled across the 90’s Documentary Truth or Dare. Friends, this is Madge in her prime! I am obsessed with 90’s Madge…..to the point where I am about to trade in my feeding bra for a cone bra or a Gaultier bustier worn over a suit! Appropriate for a play date….n’est pas? So if you are craving a little 90’s inspiration…Don’t just stand there let’s get to it, strike a pose there’s nothing to it…..

High, Medium, Thrift

Happy Friday Juicettes!

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. The 90’s. Yup. They’re back! Each fashion season we see a resurgence of decades past – 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s….it was only a matter of time before the 90’s ‘crowd surfed‘ their way back into our wardrobe’s again. When I think back to my teenage years, I definitely went through a serious grunge period. Oh yeah, I did it all:  Doc Martins, concert tees, cut off Levis, plaid, bedhead…..poor posture….depression…..angst!!! Those were the days!  During that period of my life I really began to express myself through fashion – that is when my love of thrifting began.  I will always hold a place in my heart (and my wardrobe) for those days. That said, I am pretty pumped about this seasons 90’s revival! Enter the Baja poncho…..the latest thrifted addition to my fashion repertoire.

The total awesomosity of this Ponch is unparalleled, however something is missing….an elevation, an update…..something to bring it into the now. Styling the poncho with a mix of high, medium and thrifted pieces will transform this $5.00 thrift into the realm of chic!
Here’s how!

1.Baja Poncho – Thrift $5.00

2. Proenza Schouler Satchel – Net a Porter 1695

3. Tribal Necklaces – Zara $35.90

4. Red Hot Chili Peppers Tee – Thrift – $5.00

5. Wide Heel Sandal with Ankle strap – Zara $79.90

6. DIY Thrifted Levis – Any thrift shop

7. Tribal Print Skirt – H&M $19.90

8.Vamp Shoe with Ankle Strap – Zara – $49.90

May your week-end be full of slilettos and plaid!

Ta ta!

Some Like it Grey

Happy Friday Juicettes,

In my books a shitty grey sweatshirt is one of the most important basics to have in your wardrobe! Trust! For me, it all started with Carrie Bradshaw, or should I say Patricia Field. During her stint as the wardrobe stylist for SATC, Pat frequently paired sweats with Manolo Blahniks, and my god did it ever work!  Remember ‘The Real Me’ episode where Miss Carrie takes a spill on the runway and becomes ‘fashion roadkill’?’ Rewind to the events preceding the wipe-out and you will see Carrie rocking her sloppy greys with black cigarette pants and a pair of red pumps. Legendary!

Here are some more inspired ways to wear your greys!!!!
Hope you enjoy!

With a pop of yellow!

Dunno what to wear with neon?
Play it safe and throw on a grey tee!
The right accessories will make the look.
Heels and fab sunnies!!

I love this Cobalt and grey ensemble!
Wendy dressed up her grey with a classic Fendi satchel and Yves Saint Laurent pumps!
The greatest accessory here is her energy and confidence!

Dip Dyed denim with tucked grey sweats!
Simplicity at its best!

Do it up like Kate with a little sea foam green action and a pair of Marant sneaks!

Pop those lips and toes!

Red lips and nails paired with statement jewelry!
You really can’t go wrong!

Why not style your sweats with a pair of grey dress pants?
Who said monochromatic greys had to be boring?

Glam it up with sassy cat eyes, cocktail jewelry and a tidy collared shirt!
Ding, ding, ding!!

……I really could go on for ever!
How do you like to wear your sweats??

Have a great week-end!

Orange You Glad!

Hello Juicettes!

Well it’s Friday! Colour me excited! I bet you will never guess which colour…..hahaha.!  Orange you glad you decided to stop by “the juice” today? See what I did there? Geesh… I am on fire!!!!!  Alright, alright… I am done with the barrage of pun!  Onward and upward!

Today’s post is all about Orange!!!  One of my all time favourite colours!  Here are some interesting facts….

Orange is considered to be the most flamboyant color on the planet! It is the color which is linked mostly to warmth, energy, fun times, and happiness. It is also associated with ambition. There is nothing even remotely calm associated with this color. Orange is associated with a new dawn in attitude.”

Colour psychology is fascinating…don’t you think? Upon reading this little synopsis of orange, I immediately saw parallels to myself. Some may say that I have a bit of an eccentric and fiery personality, so when I started to research colour theory and psychology, it all started to make sense. Now I understand my fixation with orange – hence the burnt sienna leather sectional in my living room.

Alrightly school’s out! And now the fashion! Below you will find four “studies in Orange.” Everyone needs a little citrus in their life … am I right? Enjoy!

Initially, a monochromatic orange colour palette may seem a bit insane, but I think that the above image illustrates otherwise.
By varying the hues and textures in each piece, the end result is uber chic!

Firstly, can I just say that I am mad jelly of this gals adorable braided do!
This fabulous look is a mix of complimentary and analogous colors.
….and it works!

I would never have thought to pair these colours together…you??
This righteous look from Sophie Theallet’s 2012 Spring colllection hits all the right notes!

And last but definitely not least…..
A ‘lil bit of seventies, a dash of boho and a whole lotta sass!
I can’t wait to try this!

…..i hope you enjoyed my study in Orange…

Have a great week-end Juicies!!

Fired Up for Fall

Hello Juicettes!

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous this week and I am lovin’ every minute of it!  As the month of August quickly comes to a close, I find myself in deep reflection.  Is it me…or has the summer completely flown by?  How is this possible? Am I ready to trade in my sandals for riding boots?  Before we know it, the crisp Fall air will be upon us …..and to be honest – I am so hyped! It is my belief that we are standing on the precipice of an extremely exciting and eclectic fall fashion season! Don’t get me wrong, I will be sad to bid adieu to the summer sun, but seriously, who isn’t hyped about donning bourgeois chic fur and rich winter hues!

If you have just recently joined Thriftjuice, (*sidebar* greetings!) you should know this little tidbit *aboot me.  Fall is my all time favourite fashion season!  As a child, I remember loving that my birthday fell in August because it coincided with the delivery of the Sears Catalog. Know what that meant?  B-day deniro for back to school clothes! Laugh not at my Sears catalog yearnings dear Juicealots, my fashion prowess had not yet been fully developed.

When I think back to those days, the sequence of events usually went something like this: catalog arrives on door step, Victoria stealthily slinks down stairs, swipes it up, and then darts back up to room. *door slams* From that moment on, not a peep was to be heard from me for hours.

Then the list making began:

  • turtle neck – check
  • corduroy pants – check
  • denim jacket – check
  • pleather pants – check  (I would always try and slip one “extravagant” item by my Mum.  But she wasn’t “haaaaavin’ it”)

When I reappeared from my room: face flushed, eyes beaming with excitement #fashionhigh – a trip to the mall inevitably ensued.  Back to school dudz were purchased and I thought I was going to be the shit in my corduroy pants and ribbed turtleneck. I have evolved a tad since then:  Flare, Lou Lou, Harpers, and of course…the coveted September issue of Vogue, are my go to mags for fall fashion! Lou Lou is my fav mag of the moment. This publication has it all: Trend Reports, the Look for Less, Make-up and Hair Trends, Style tips and much more. If you want an accessible and comprehensive look at Fall fashion then Lou Lou is the magazine  for you.  In today’s post, I have prepared a collection of tear sheets from my fav fashion mags. Lots of inspiration to get you fired up for Fall!! Enjoy ;)

*aboot – derived from the word about. Means the same thing.

Red, Snakeskin and Gold!
Yes please!
Can’t wait to try this combination!

Red and Black.
Always classic, chic and completely accessible!

Who wore it best?
Loving Miss Bosworth’s soft angora sweater, scarlet midi, and Marant booties!

All fired up about H&M’s selection of orange and red hues!

Flare Magazine’s incredible editorial on this season’s most forward “neutral”!

 Hmmmm Love this last one!
